Aritar is one of the famous and beautiful places of tourist destination in east Sikkim. It lies in the border area of (states of India) West Bengal and is also close to next country Bhutan. The natural ecology, beautiful scenic view and historical identity brings the picture of this land in the heart and soul of every visitors. It is situated at the height of 6500ft and is 120 kilometer from the capital town Gangtok. It is one of prominent village tourism destiny in the state.

The lake lampokhari, which is regarded as a holy place, it was said that some goddess used to live there in the past centauries. The story tells us that there were two white swan and they even don’t let the leaf to drop in to the lake. If some does anything to dirty the water than some natural calamities like rain, landslides, hail stone, gives its way to the whole village. The lake was about 1500 ft in its length. Lampokhari itself means (lamho) long, which is the longest lake in sikkim, they made with their duty to clean the lake. If we climb up to the top from the lake, lies the good view point of mount Kanchenjunga, and the scenic greenery of entire village. Everyone would be blissful to look around, the Religious Mandir and monasteries of traditional communities gives real fragrance of love and peace., it lies at the height of  1800ft so the scenic view from there was like a blessing of nature itself…

By implementing one of the renowned tourist destinations in the area in 2001 the lake had been prepared for the first and only boating place in Sikkim, Aritar became one of the spot of tourist destination,   the many other inbuilt quality of this village made the visitor to come to this place again and again.
It would be quite incomplete to write or talk about Aritar without mentioning the oldest dak Bunglow of Sikkim which was built in 1895 by the first British political leader of India (Sir James Claude White). The oldest Kagyu monastery gives a real fragrance to the art and culture of Aritar village, tranquil air with one of the monastic culture. There lies many graveyards of Britisher who left their lives fighting with the neighboring country china.

The package tour towards Changu have been much beneficial side for the trekkers from Aritar via Kubuk and another trek rout towards Fushrey and Rachalla (west Bengal) are mostly to attract the trekkers. It has got a huge beneficial side for the villagers’ as well as common people.
